Strategies to improve your Social Media content

The content equation is pretty easy: Create more content to get more reach. Create better content to get more engagement.

You see, many people commit to that first part, as they keep pumping content like there’s no tomorrow, hoping that their endless posts will get them those sweet follower numbers and grow their business.

While it is a great start to boost your algorithm, quantity alone is not enough to get people engaged with your content. What’s the point of reaching 100,000 accounts a day, if none of those users actually watch your videos?

In fact, anytime someone sees your video and skips it within a couple of seconds, that precious algorithm of yours takes a hit. If THOUSANDS of users skip your videos every day, well then… Let’s just say that’s not good.

So, in hopes of avoiding that nightmare, here are some effective tips that we’ve tried and tested which have proven to be great engagement boosters.

1. The Two-Second Rule

The first 2 seconds of your video are the window you have to win the viewer’s attention and get them watching till the end, which is why your video needs to be visually and acoustically appealing from the very beginning.

It’s basically a game of senses, and it requires some practice, as you need to learn how to dynamically edit your videos, how to color-grade them to appeal to the eye, and how to create a soothing sound design that catches the ear.

If that sounds overwhelming for you, you can go to a content creation studio or a video production agency, or you can hire a professional editor.

2. The Hook

Think of yourself as a fisherman laying bait on a hook, waiting to attract the fish.

In this scenario, the bait is the very first thing you say in the video, and it has to spike the viewer’s curiosity.
You could start it off with a mind-boggling question, like “Does the sky actually exist?”, or some interesting statement, such as “Everything will change in 2025”.

That’s your bait. Now, how do you hook the viewer? By not giving them the information straight away, instead making them watch the whole video to eventually get their answer. Many of the most successful creators sneakily use this method.

However, it’s crucial to actually satisfy the viewer’s curiosity in the end. Don’t bait the viewer into watching, and then let them down with the result, as this would lead to distrust and resentment from your audience.

3. Equipment Quality

Yes, using your smartphone to record a video is totally fine.

However, a professional camera’s lens catches way more detail and textures, allows for a better depth of field, and gives you more frame flexibility.

On the other hand, a professional microphone would catch way more frequencies and tones in your voice compared to a smartphone’s mic.

Not to mention the lighting setup, which greatly enhances how you and your background look on-camera.

Put together, these elements give an irresistible quality to your videos, and not only will this attract the viewer, it’ll also make them feel respected, as you’re actually putting some effort into your production.

Again, if you want to save yourself the trouble, hit up a professional video production studio in your area, and let them handle the process for you if it feels overwhelming.

4. Get People Talking

Comments, comments, comments. It is the secret sauce for the success of many videos out there.

So, how do you get people to comment on your videos? By building a community of people whom you actually engage and interact with.

Instead of seeing them as mere numbers and profiles on a screen, actually reply to people’s comments, and try to reply to any direct messages you receive, as this will make your followers feel seen and respected by you, which will in-turn drive them to keep engaging with you.

Also, let people know you want them to comment, by saying things like “Make sure to comment and let me know what you think about this”, as this would encourage them to share their opinions with you.

This social media game requires a fine balance between being genuine and being smart enough to know what attracts viewers. So, by all means, apply these tricks, whilst also remaining honest and engaging with your audience, and you’ll see those numbers going up in no time.
